Biography
At CornellVernacchia, a three-year starter on beam, opened every meet on beam as a junior in 2014. One of the team’s most consistent contributors, she went 9.725 against William & Mary for a career-best score, just above the 9.700 she hit at the ECAC Championships. Vernacchia was in the lineup for 11 of 12 meets as a sophomore in 2013. She also opened in the lineup twice on vault. Vernacchia scored better than 9.6 in three different meets on beam, including a 9.675 at the Ivy Classic. That was good for 11th place overall. Vernacchia was a starter on vault and beam as a freshman in 2012. She ranked among the team leaders on beam, posting a 9.605 regional qualifying score Vernacchia had five scores of 9.6 or better on the event, including a 9.650 at the Ivy Classic. She also had a career high on vault with a 9.550 at the Ivy meet.
Prior to CornellA graduate of San Luis Obispo HS, she was a two-year level 10 state and regional competitor for Performance Athletics Gymnastics. Vernacchia was team captain for five years. In high school, she was a member of the California Scholarship Federation, the National Honor Society, the Newspaper, the Mock Trial and was on the Honor Roll.
PersonalMaia Christine Vernacchia is the daughter of Fred and Anne Vernacchia and has two older sisters.
