Biography
At Cornell
As a junior, Forte rowed in the second varsity eight that won the Cornell Trophy for the first time since 2006 at the 2013 EARC Sprints. He was one of just three underclassmen to row in the varsity eight during the 2011-12 season, helping the Big Red to a fifth place finish at the IRA Championship and a sixth place finish at EARC Sprints. The varsity eight won the Matthews Cup and the Leonard Cup against Penn, edged Princeton by .3 seconds to win the Platt Cup for the first time since 2007, and defeated Columbia and MIT for its fifth consecutive Geiger Cup. Fort spent his rookie season in the first freshmen boat that took third place at the 2011 Eastern Sprints.
At Ransom Everglades High School
Fort rowed varsity stroke for four years at Ransom Everglades high school. In 2008, he was the light double youth national champion and rowed stroke for the quad junior national team. In 2009, he earned fifth place at youth nationals in a quad and rowed second seat for the junior national team that placed 17th at the Junior World championships. Fort also won five Southeast Regional championships and four Florida state championships.
Personal
Gabriel Bernard Fort is the son of Bernardo Fort and Laurinda Spear and he has four older brothers and one older sister. His family is entrenched in the Ancient Eight with his father and mother graduating from Princeton and Brown, respectively, while all five of his siblings attend Ivy League schools. His brother Nicholas played water polo for Brown, while his brothers Ray ’11 and Harold ’12 rowed lightweight crew for the Big Red. Likewise, his aunt Alison Spear is a 1982 graduate of Cornell. Fort is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
