Lucken participated in five indoor and two outdoor meets in his Cornell debut. Lucken competed primarily in the sprints and intermediate distances in 2014. He had a solid showing at the Cornell Upstate Challenge, posting an indoor season best 23.02 in the 200. The freshman continued to improve during the outdoor season. He posted 12th place finishes in both the 200 and 400 at the Cortland Classic Invitational. He wrapped up the season on a strong note at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational. He posted a career best 22.87 in the 200, which was good for 5th place. He also marked a career best 100 time of 11.38 in a 7th place finish.

Before Cornell
Lucken was a four-year member of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams at Newton North HS as a sprinter and captained both teams in 2013. He collected numerous honors during those seasons including New Balance Indoor All-American honors for his part in the sprint medley relay in 2011 and 2013. Lucken won the Massachusetts All-State Championship in the 400-meter dash (2013) and the 4x400-meter indoor relay (2012). Additionally, in 2013 he won the Massachusetts Division I State Championship in the 300-meter dash (indoor) and 400-meter dash (outdoor). He was a member of Newton North's Massachusetts All-State championship team in 2013. 

He was also recognized for his efforts academically, earning All-Scholastic honors from the Boston Globe and Boston Herald for the indoor season in 2012 and outdoor season in 2013. 

Personal
Ryan David Lucken is the son of Kent and Kristen Lucken. His brother, Alex, is currently a senior at Cornell. Ryan is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.Â
