As a Sophomore (2014-15)In his sophomore season, Mankovecky continued to compete in the high jump. Indoors, his highest finish came at the Cornell Sunday Invitational, where his jump of 6’ 6.25” earned him second place. He also tied for fifth at the Beantown Challenge with a jump of 6’ 3.5”. Outdoors, he finished third with a jump of 6’ 4.25” at the Upstate Challenge and fifth with a jump of the same height at the Big Red Invitational.
As a Freshman (2013-14)Mankovecky participated exclusively in the high jump in his inaugural year at Cornell. He posted a 2
nd place finish at the Cornell Southern Tier Collegiate Open. The following month he took home the top spot at the Ithaca College Quad Meet. He wrapped up the indoor season with a fantastic showing at the Indoor Heps, marking a career best clearance of 6’ 9.75” to finish 4
th. Outdoors, he participated in four events, with his best mark of 6’ 4.75” coming in a 2
nd place finish at the UCR Spring Break Invitational.
Before CornellMankovecky was a four-year member of the track and field team in high school; serving as captain and competing in the high jump, hurdles and javelin. He was a two-time district, regional and state champion at Bishop Watterson. Additionally, he broke a 30-year-old record in the high jump with a leap of six feet, ten inches. He finished fifth at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in 2013 and second at the Midwest Meet of Champions. Mankovecky is a junior national qualifier and two-time First Team Elite. He also played two years of volleyball as an outside hitter.
PersonalJozef Baab Mankovecky is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. His father was a member of the Slovak men's national volleyball team and his mother played volleyball at North Dakota State.
