As a Senior (2016-17)
Murillo had a strong senior year of throwing for Cornell, earning 14 top 10 finishes and competing in the Ivy League Indoor Track and Field Championships. Indoors, Murillo won the weight throw at the Southern Tier Collegiate Open (56’3”) and set a personal record of 56’4.75” in the event in grabbing fourth at the Nittany Lion Challenge. He also had second place finishes at the Marc Deneault memorial and the Robert J. Kane Invitational before finishing 12th at indoor Heps. Outdoors, had a pair of third place finishes at the Ithaca College Tuesday Meet and the Big Red Outdoor Invitational. He set a personal record of 186’1” for eighth at the Larry Ellis Invitational and finished ninth at outdoor Heps.
As a Junior (2015-16)
As a junior, Murillo proved to be a valuable piece of the Big Red throws squad. He set college-best marks in the hammer throw (184’1”) and the weight throw (55’7.5”) and qualified for the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships where he finished 22nd overall in the hammer throw. Indoors, Murillo had five top ten finishes in the weight throw, including a second place finish at the Greg Page Relays. Outdoors, Murillo had four top 10 finishes in the hammer throw, including a second place finish at the Outdoor Upstate Challenge.
As a Sophomore (2014-15)
Murillo continued to specialize in the throws his sophomore season. He won the hammer throw at the Ithaca College Invitational with a personal-best throw of 180’ 6” and picked up a victory at the Cornell Invitational with a throw of 165’ 5”. He placed third at the Big Red Invitational (174’) and the Upstate Challenge (175’ 10”).
As a Freshman (2013-14)
Murillo participated in six indoor and two outdoor events in his Big Red debut. He specialized in the throws, taking part in the weight throw indoors and the hammer throw outdoors. His season best weight throw came at the Ithaca College Quad Meet, as he took the top spot with a throw of 52’ 4”. His best hammer throw came at the Stanford Invitational, as he launched a 156’ 11” to finish 19th.
Before Cornell
Murillo competed for Club Throws Coach Florida, posting the second all-time distance in the state of Florida in the hammer throw and capturing a USATF Southeast Regional Championship in the event. Additionally, he was ranked as high as 10th in the nation.
Personal
Martin Murillo is the son of Jose Murillo and Elena Arango, and has one brother, Simon, who is a student at the University of Central Florida. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
