Senior Season — 2014-15Sidney returned from injury for the final six dual matches of the season, posting a 4-2 record from the No. 6 singles position — all against Ivy League foes. He was also 2-1 in singles and 0-1 in doubles during fall tournaments.
Junior Season — 2013-14Sidney posted a 6-4 record in singles and 4-5 record in doubles during dual matches. He competed from the Nos. 4 and 5 positions in singles, starting the season with a 5-0 record on the strength of victories against opponents from Buffalo, George Washington, Radford, Rice and Middle Tennessee State. ... Sidney posted a 7-6 record in singles during fall tournament play. He advanced as far as the semifinals in the Tiger bracket of the season-opening Princeton Invitational. He was also an impressive 9-3 in doubles, teaming with Bernardo Casares Rosa to win the 'B' bracket of the Ivy Plus Invitational. The tandem topped Columbia's Eric Rubin and Bert Vancura in the final.
Sophomore Season — 2012-13Sidney moved up the singles ladder, competing from either the No. 2 or No. 3 position throughout the dual-match season. He posted a 10-10 record overall and a 3-4 record in Ivy League matches. He concluded his season with three-set victories against Princeton's Zack McCourt and Penn's Ismael Lahlou. Sidney also competed exclusively from the No. 1 doubles position with junior Venkat Iyer. The pair posted a 11-7 record, including a pair of Ivy League victories against Brown's Soufiane Azargui and Brandon Burke, and Penn's Austin Kaplan and Nikola Kocovic. ... Sidney was also 7-3 in singles and 4-3 in doubles during fall tournaments. He won the 'A' singles consolation bracket of the Columbia Classic on Oct. 8. He was 2-1 in doubles with junior Spencer Clark, advancing to the semifinals of the semifinals of the 'A' bracket in the Cornell Fall Invitational. He was also 2-2 with freshman Dragos Dima, with the pair marching into the semifinals of the 'B' bracket at the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational.
Freshman Season — 2011-12Sidney was second on the squad in dual match singles victories, going 12-11 from the Nos. 4 and 5 spots in the lineup. He had a four-match winning streak in February, including his first of two victories over Columbia's Bert Vancura, and was one of just three competitors to appear in all 25 of the Big Red's dual matches. Sidney led the team in appearances at No. 1 doubles, posting a 4-9 record at that slot and an overall doubles mark of 6-13 in the spring season. In the fall, he teamed with sophomore Venkat Iyer to post an impressive 6-1 mark. The pair won the B Bracket at the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational and was ranked as high as 35th in the nation by the ITA in early January. He was equally strong in fall singles play, going 10-2 with a Green Bracket title at the Dartmouth Invitiational in late October. He was ranked 20th in the Northeast Region by the ITA in early January.
At McDonogh SchoolA five-star recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network, Sidney won three MIAA Championships at the McDonogh School. A three-time team captain, he won the squad’s Eagle Award three times and finished his senior season with a career record of 117-3. The top recruit in the state of Maryland, Sidney ranked as high as 16th in the USTA Boys' 18 rankings. He won two USTA Boys’ 18 Sectional L1 Championships, as well as the USTA Boys’ 16 Texas Open and the Boys’ 18 Peach State Nationals. In 2009, he also reached the quarterfinals of the USTA Boys’ 16 National Clay Court. He won two USTA Boys’ 18 National Open Doubles titles and was a finalist of the USTA Boys’ 18 Doubles National Clay Court in 2011.
PersonalAlexander Cohen Sidney is the son of Susan Sidney. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
