Biography
At Cornell
Junior (2015-16): Carter helped the second varsity eight to victory over Syracuse and Navy in the battle for the Stagg Points Plate, before rowing in the third varsity eight that beat Penn and Dartmouth for the James Wray Memorial Trophy. At the 2016 Eastern Sprints he helped the second varsity eight to a second place finish in the Petite Finals to take eighth place overall. At the IRA National Championship he rowed in the third varsity eight that also placed second in the Petite Finals for an eighth place finish.
Sophomore (2014-15): As a sophomore, Carter rowed in the second varsity eight that won the Petite Finals at the 2015 ECAC Sprints, before taking second in the Petite Finals of the 2015 IRA Regatta.
Freshman (2013-14): In his first season with the Big Red, Carter helped the freshmen eight to win a bronze medal at the 2014 Eastern Sprints. The crew went on to be the Big Red's lone boat to race in the Grand Finals of the 2014 IRA Regatta and placed sixth in the nation.
Prior to Cornell
Carter earned four varsity letters in rowing at JMJ Academy, where he earned the team’s Hammer Award and set the boathouse record in both the 2k and 10k. He finished first overall in three consecutive Southern Sprints in the 500-meter and took first in back-to-back Southern Sprints in the 2k. He also won the Southern Sprints Freshman 2k. His varsity eight was a two-time bronze medalist at the state championships, and also earned a silver and a bronze medal at the regional championships.
Personal
Maximillian Richard Carter is the son of Charles and Marieke Cartrer and he has six brothers and two sisters. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
