At Cornell
Career:
One of the most decorated players in Cornell field hockey history, Marisa Siergiej capped her phenomenal Big Red career by becoming the program's first All-American in 13 seasons, when she was named to the second-team. She was also a two-time first-team All-Mideast Region All-American, and was named a unanimous first-team All-Ivy honoree for the second consecutive season. As a senior, she became the first-ever Cornell field hockey player to earn an Ivy League Player of the Year honor, earning the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award, and is the first to take home a major Ivy League award since Hannah Balleza was named co-Rookie of the Year in 2010. Siergiej, who was also named a third-team All-American by Synapse Sports, was selected to participate in the NFHCA Senior All-Star game, and was named to the 2015 ECAC Field Hockey All-Star first team.

Over the course of her career, Siergiej started 66-of-67 games and helped Cornell to field some of the best defenses in program history. A year ago, she was the anchor of a defensive unit that set a school record, allowing a mere 3.9 penalty corners per contest, while allowing opponents just 8.0 shots per game, the lowest average since the 1983 season (6.7 shots per game). This past season, the unit allowed opponents just 10.5 shots per game and 4.6 penalty corner opportunities per contest.

A dominant presence on the Big Red's offensive penalty corner unit, Siergiej scored 10 times this season, reaching double-digit goals for the third consecutive year. She ended her career ranked second in school history for career goals (38), just two shy of Linda Miller's school record, and fifth overall in career points (85).

Junior (2014): Siergiej was named first-team Mideast Region All-American and was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection following a junior season in which she led the Big Red in goals (13), game-winning goals (three), and points (29). Siergiej finished the year just one goal shy of the Cornell record for goals in a single season. She ranked second overall in the Ivy League and 16th in the nation in goals per game (0.81). She was also fourth in the conference and 26th in the country in points per game (1.81). One of the best defenders in the Ivy League, Siergiej was named the team’s Defensive MVP and played nearly every minute of every game. She was the anchor of a defensive unit that set a school record, allowing a mere 3.9 penalty corners per contest, while allowing opponents just 8.0 shots per game, the lowest average since the 1983 season (6.7 shots per game).

Sophomore (2013): Siergiej was named second-team Mideast Region All-American and first-team All-Ivy following a sophomore season in which she led the Big Red in goals (10), game-winning goals (four), and points (22). Her four game-winners rank second all-time in Cornell single-season history, while her 10 goals rank 11th overall and her 22 points place her 17th overall. She finished the season ranked second in the Ivy League in game-winning goals and was sixth in goals per game (0.59) and ninth in points per game (1.29). One of the premier defenders in the Ivy League, Siergiej played every minute of every game and was the anchor of a defensive unit that ranked fourth in the conference in goals allowed (2.12) and gave up just 6.1 penalty corners per contest. After scoring four of Cornell's five collective goals against Harvard and Lehigh, Siergiej was named the Ivy League Player of the Week on Oct. 22.

Freshman (2012): Siergiej had an outstanding rookie season, earning second-team All-Ivy honors after starting 16 of the team's 17 games in the defensive backfield. She ranked third on the team in scoring with 11 points on five goals and an assist. She was credited with the game-winning goal against Colgate, part of a two-goal effort. Siergiej also had a goal and an assist in the win over Georgetown, and scored in each of the Big Red’s final two games, notching a goal against Holy Cross and Dartmouth. Siergiej was awarded the teams’ Class of '91 Cup, which is chosen by the senior class and given annually to the player with the most promising future.

At Penn-Trafford HS
Siergiej was a four-year letter winner at Penn-Trafford high school, where she helped her team to a WPIAL Class AAA championship as a senior captain. She was both a WPIAL all-section selection and an All-WPIAL selection all four seasons. Siergiej led her team in scoring and was named team MVP during her junior and senior campaigns. She also lettered four times in track and holds school records in the 4x100 relay and the 400-meter dash. She was selected for the National Futrues Championship in 2011 and 2012 and was selected to Futures Elite in 2012 as well. Siergiej played club field hockey for Team Golden Triangle.
