CAREER
• A two-time NCAA champion and four-time All-American, Dean graduates as one of the top wrestlers in collegiate history.
• A three-time national finalist at 184 pounds, Dean posted a career record of 152-7 with 101 bonus wins, both school records, and never finished lower than third at nationals.
• He is one of just 11 wrestlers in more than 100 years to win four Eastern wrestling titles and was a two-time Ivy League Wrestler of the Year.
• The four-time, first-team All-Ivy League pick was the 2014 Ivy League and EIWA Rookie of the Year and was a two-time Coaches Trophy Award winner as the most outstanding wrestler at the EIWA meet.
• Dean became the third four-time Southern Scuffle champion and the sixth three-time Las Vegas Invite champ.
• He was part of teams that won four EIWA and Ivy League titles and posted a cumulative 52-10 dual meet record in his four seasons, posting four top eight NCAA team finishes.
• Dean's signature win came against Penn State’s two-time defending national champion Ed Ruth at the Southern Scuffle as a freshman, snapping Ruth’s 84-match win streak dating back to 2011.
As a senior (2016-17)
• Became the school's seventh four-time NCAA All-American in program history after going 35-1 as a senior.
Earned his third consecutive spot in the national finals, dropping a 4-3 decision to Penn State's Bo Nickal to snap a 45-match win streak.
• Became the 11th wrestler in EIWA history (fifth Cornellian) to win four Eastern titles.
• Set a school record with 152 career wins.
• Became the third four-time Southern Scuffle champion and the sixth three-time Las Vegas Invite champ.
• Defeated preseason No. 2 and reining 17-4pound NCAA champion Mayles Martin of Ohio State by a 13-4 major decision in the
NWCA All-Star Classic.
• Only four of his 35 wins came by decision.
As a junior (2015-16)
• Won his second straight NCAA title at 184 pounds with a 5-3 win over Nebraska's TJ Dudley, joining four-time champ Kyle Dake and two-timers Dave Auble and Travis Lee as Cornellians to win multiple NCAA titles.
Became a three-time NCAA All-American.
• Won his third straight EIWA title with falls in three of his four matches, including a 0:53 pin of Navy's Mathew Miller in the finals.
• Earned the EIWA's Sheridan Award (most pins in the shortest period) at the league tournament.
• Named a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League pick.
• Enters his final season with a 117-6 career record with 71 bonus wins, including 34-1 with 25 bonus wins as a junior in 2016.
• Ranks among the school’s career leaders in wins (14th, 117), winning percentage (third, .951), bonus wins (eighth, 71), falls (eighth, 30), tech falls (fifth, 19) and NCAA dominance rankings (third, 3.934).
• Won the Binghamton Open, New York State Intercollegiates, Las Vegas Invitational, Southern Scuffle and EIWA tournaments in 2015-16.
• Was 13-1 against ranked opponents on the year and 19-1 vs. NCAA qualifiers.
• Opened the year by winning his first 14 contests of the year with bonus points.
• Ended his year with a 10-match win streak since suffering his only loss of the year on Feb. 7 in a dual meet against Oklahoma State’s Nolan Boyd, 14-9.
• That loss, which he avenged with a decisive 10-4 win in the NCAA quarterfinals, ended a 52-match win streak for Dean.
As a sophomore (2014-15)
• Dean won his first NCAA title with a perfect three-day run through the 184-pound bracket.
• He claimed the title with a 6-2 victory over Lehigh's Nathaniel Brown in the finals, making it four wins over Brown on the season.
• The top seed entering the tournament, he ended his second season with a 43-2 overall record and a second EIWA championship and NCAA All-America honor to his name.
• Dean led the Big Red in wins (43), bonus wins (24), winning percentage (.956) and dual wins (18-0).
• The 2015 EIWA and Ivy League Wrestler of the Year and two-time first-team all-leaguer sports an 83-5 career mark.
• His .935 winning percentage sits third in school history.
• He ended the year with a 28-match win streak.
• Along with winning an EIWA and NCAA championship, Dean won his second straight Southern Scuffle title, a New York State Intercollegiate championship and won his match at the preseason NWCA All-Star Classic.
• He was a perfect 3-0 at the Journeymen Northeast Duals, was 2-0 at the Grapple at the Garden and 4-0 at the National Duals.
• Dean helped the Big Red win its 13th straight Ivy title, its ninth consecutive EIWA crown, reached the finals at the National Duals and a New York State championship.
• The Big Red finished third in the NWCA Coaches Poll and fifth at the NCAA championships..
As a freshman (2013-14)
• The Ivy League and EIWA Rookie of the Year, Dean earned All-America honors with a third-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Championships.
• The unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection had a spectacular rookie season, going 40-3 with his only losses coming to the top two wrestlers at his weight class.
• He led the team in wins and was second in bonus wins (23).
• He won 29 consecutive matches, including 11 over top 20 wrestlers, before dropping a 5-3 decision to eventual national champion Ed Ruth of Penn State in the NCAA semifinals.
• Bounced back with a pin of Penn's Lorenzo Thomas and a decision over fellow rookie Jack Dechow of Old Dominion for third.
• Dean defeated four straight NCAA qualifiers in Devin Hightower (Air Force), Ophir Bernstein (Brown), Jake Swartz (Boise State) and Timothy Dudley (Nebraska) en route to the title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and won his first EIWA tournament with three straight bonus wins, including a pin in the semis, before topping Thomas of Penn 3-1 in the finals.

• He won the New York State Intercollegiates, the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and the Southern Scuffle and placed second at the Binghamton Open.
Prior to Cornell
• Dean was a two-time state finalist at Lowell HS, winning a state title as a junior and placing as the runner-up as a senior.
• A top 100 national recruit and a top 10 recruit in the state of Michigan as a senior, Dean won the Division 2 state championship at 189 pounds with a perfect 40-0 record the year before.
• Dean was a two-time all-state selection on the gridiron while playing quarterback.
• He led Lowell to a state championship as a sophomore and a runner-up finish as a junior when he was named the Associated Press Division 1-2 Player of the Year.
• Dean accounted for more than 60 touchdowns in his three years as a starter.
Personal
• Gabriel Curtis Dean is the son of David and Bethny Dean and has a younger brother and sister.
• His father was an NCAA Division I runner-up and two-time Big 10 Conference champion wrestler at Minnesota.
• He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
