As a Freshman (2014-15)
Shaffer competed primarily in the discus in his freshman season. He competed in one meet in the indoor season, picking up fourth in his only appearance in the shot put with a throw of 44’ 3.5”. Outdoors, he competed in nine meets, grabbing the no. 10 spot on the program charts with a discus throw of 167’ 9” at the Stanford Invitational. He took first in the discus at the Big Red Invitational (158’ 9”) and placed second at the Upstate Challenge (158’ 8”) and the Cornell Invitational (157’). At Outdoor Ivy League Heptagonals, he finished sixth.

Before Cornell
Shaffer had a highly successful career at Midd-West, leaving the school with multiple program records. He was PIAA AAA District 4 champion in the discus his senior season, marking a personal best throw of 169' 4". He was named to the Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference 1st Team for the discus at the conclusion of the season.
