Biography

At Cornell
As a junior (2016-17)

• Rowed for the varsity eight against Penn and Harvard at the start of his junior season, helping the crew to a victory.

As a sophomore (2015-16) 
• Rowed in the varsity 4- that won the gold medal at the 2016 Eastern Sprints.
• During the season, he helped the second varsity eight crew earn the Leonard Cup with a win over Penn and Harvard, as well as posting victories over Princeton, Yale, Columbia, MIT, and Dartmouth.

As a freshman (2014-15) 
• In his first season with the Big Red, McManus helped Cornell earn its second consecutive Jope Cup by rowing from the bow seat in the third varsity eight that won a gold medal at the 2015 EARC Sprints.

Prior to Cornell
• Earned three varsity letters in rowing at Malvern Prep, serving as team captain during his senior season.
• He was a three-time scholastic national champions and a four-time Philadelphia chity champion.
• Earned a gold medal in the heavyweight double at the 2014 Stotesbury Regatta.
 
Personal
• James Joseph McManus is the son of Regina McManus and he has one brother and two sisters.
• His brother, Matt ‘11, was a member of the Big Red lightweight rowing team, while his sister, Kristen played field hockey at Fairfield University.
• Enrolled in the College of Engineering.
