Biography
At Cornell
As a junior (2016-17)
• Consistent member of the third varsity eight throughout his rookie season.
• Helped the crew defeat Princeton, Columbia & MIT, and Dartmouth.
• Also rowed for the third varsity eight that placed fourth in the Grand Final at the 2017 EARC Sprints.
As a sophomore (2015-16)
• Rowed in the fourth varsity eight that took the bronze medal at the 2016 Eastern Sprints.
• Helped Cornell earn the Leonard Cup with a win over Penn and Harvard, as well as posting victories over Princeton and Yale.
As a freshman (2014-15)
• In his first season with the Big Red, Richartz won a gold medal with the fourth varsity eight at the 2015 EARC Sprints.
Prior To Cornell
• Earned four varsity letters at Lyme-Old Lyme High School, serving as team captain as a junior and senior.
• Won a pair of state championships in the varsity four in 2012 and the varsity eight in 2013, and took second overall in the varsity four at the 2014 National Scholastic Rowing Association Championships.
• Also helped his crew to a sixth place finish at the 2014 NEIRA Championship, after finishing fourth in 2013 and taking second in the Petite Final in 2012.
• A two-time Connecticut Shoreline Athlete Scholar Award winner, he also won his team’s Coaches’ Cup award in 2012.
• Member of the Blood Street Sculls, where he competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta and took third in the Intermediate Lightweight 2- at the 2012 United States Rowing Club Nationals.
Personal
• Graham Wheeler Richartz is the son of Jeffery and Linda Richartz and he has an older brother and older sister.
• His brother, Halsey, sails for Penn, while his sister Eliza was a member of the equestrian team at Stanford from 2009-2013, winning a national championship in 2013.
• Enrolled in the College of Engineering.
