Biography

• First-Team All-Ivy (2017)

As a junior (2016-17)
• Consistently rowed with the varsity eight that won the 2017 IRA National Championships and captured an undefeated season in 2017.
• Member of the varsity eight that was named the EARC Lightweight Crew of the Year following the season.
• Rowed the Big Red to its 11th Ivy League Championship at the 2017 EARC Sprints.
• Also named first-team All-Ivy by virtue of winning the Ivy League.

As a sophomore (2015-16) 
• Moved between the varsity eight and the second varsity eight throughout his sophomore season.
• At the 2016 Eastern Sprints, he helped the second varsity eight win a silver medal, before moving into the varsity eight for the IRA National Championship and helping the crew to a fifth place finish. 
• Opened the season in the second varsity eight that earned the Leonard Cup with a win over Penn and Harvard, as well as wins over Princeton and Yale, before helping the varsity eight win the Baggaley Bowl vs. Dartmouth.
• Following the season, Pinnola-Vizza stroked the Cornell lightweight eight that won its qualifying round to earn a spot in the Temple Challenge Cup at the 177th edition of the Henley Royal Regatta.

As a freshman (2014-15) 
• In his first season with the Big Red, Pinnola-Vizza was a member of the lightweight four with coxswain that took a fourth place finish at the 2015 IRA Regatta.
• Helped the Big Red earn its second consecutive Jope Cup by rowing in the third varsity eight that won a gold medal at the 2015 EARC Sprints. 

Prior To Cornell
• A three-year letter winner at La Salle College high school, Pinnola-Vizza won a gold medal in the varsity eight at the 2014 Philadelphia City Championships.
• Earned a silver medal in the lightweight eight at the 2012 Stotesbury Cup Regatta and a pair of bronze medals at the 2012 SRAA National Championships in the lightweight eight and at the 2011 Stotesbury Cup Regatta in the freshmen eight.
• Also a member of the Fairmount Rowing Association, where he was named the Rower of the Year in 2013.
 
Personal
• Joe Achille Rees Pinnola-Vizza is the son of Thomas and Jill Vizza and he has two younger sisters.
• Both his late father, John Pinnola, and his mother graduated from Cornell in 1989.
• Enrolled in the College of Engineering.
