Biography

As a senior (2018-19)

• Went 1-3 on the season, including 1-1 in dual meets.
• Earned a 12-3 major decision victory over Penn's Robert Ng on Senior Day as part of the Big Red's 5-0 Ivy dual season.
• Wrestled twice at the South Beach Invitational.  
 

As a junior (2017-18)

• Posted a 6-1 record on the season with a pair of bonus point wins.
• Took second at the Franklin & Marshall Open, injury defaulting in the finals.
• Won a pair of matches at the South Beach Duals Round Robin.
 

As a sophomore (2015-16)

• Was 11-8 on the year while wrestling at 197 pounds.
• Finished second at the Binghamton Open and third at the New York State Intercollegiates.
• Won his first five matches of the season as part of a 10-2 start to the year.
• Also saw action at the Grapple at the Garden, the Las Vegas Invitational and the Southern Scuffle, as well as dual meets against Drexel and Missouri.
• Half of his losses came to top 20 wrestlers, all by decision and two by a single point.
 

As a freshman (2014-15)

• Taylor was 14-7 in his first varsity season, including winning a pair of matches in dual meet competition at 174.
• Began the year at 174 before moving up to 197 late in the season.
• Earned a second period fall to help Cornell to a dual meet win over Kutztown, then won a 7-6 decision later in the day as the Big Red topped West Virginia.
• Placed third at the New York State Intercollegiates, including wins over wrestlers from Hofstra, Army and Binghamton.
• Was 4-2 at the ESU Open and 2-2 at the Binghamton Open, where he picked up his first collegiate win by fall.
• Also competed at the Southern Scuffle and the National Collegiate Open.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Taylor won a Pennsylvania state title at 182 pounds as a senior at Bald Eagle Area HS, going a perfect 38-0.
• He was a four-year starter on the mat and posted a career record of 127-16.
• He was ranked among the nation’s top 40 recruits by The Open Mat and the 50 recruits by D1collegewrestling.net.
• Taylor placed third as a junior and qualified for his first state tournament as a sophomore as part of a 33-3 season.
• He won a FloNationals championship prior to his senior year.
• Taylor played one varsity season of football as a running back and linebacker.
 

Personal

• Jacob Matthew Taylor is the son of Douglas and Marianne Taylor and has an older and younger brother.
• His brother Nick, father and two uncles all wrestled at West Virginia, with his father earning an All-America honor.
• He is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
