Biography

As a senior (2016-17)
• Named to the All-Ivy second team after going 4-1 in Ivy League competition, helping Cornell to the Ancient Eight title.
• Was 23-11 overall and 8-4 in dual meet competition while wrestling at 157.
• Won eight matches by bonus points, including a pair of wins by fall.
• Finished second at the New York State Intercollegiates, third at the Binghamton Open and sixth at the Southern Scuffle.
• Recovered from a first round loss to capture five consecutive wins in the consolation draw to make the fifth-round match at the Scuffle.
• Also wrestled at the Las Vegas Invitaional and the Grapple at the Garden.

As a junior (2015-16)
• Went 13-12 with seven bonus wins.
• Won the Brockport Invitational at 157 pounds.
• Was on the podium with a sixth-place effort at the New York State Intercollegiates at 149 before moving up to 157 and finishing eighth at the Nittany Lion Open.
• Also wrestled at the Shorty Hitchcock Invitational and in dual meets against Columbia and Penn.
• Was 3-2 at the Binghamton Open.

As a sophomore (2014-15)
• Was 15-11 while wrestling at both 149 and 157 during the season.
• Started in the lineup of four duals, including picking up wins at 149 against both Hofstra and Columbia.
• Went 3-2 at the Binghamton Open at 157 pounds and finished seventh at the New York State Intercollegiates.
• Picked up three wins at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
• Competed for the Big Red at the Southern Scuffle.
• Six of his losses came by three points or less, while six wins came with bonus points attached.

As a freshman (2013-14)
• As the top backup at 157 pounds, Simaz had a strong freshman campaign in going 15-7 with 10 bonus point wins.
• Simaz posted four pins, two tech falls and four major decisions on the year while going 2-1 in dual meet competition.
• He opened his career with eight wins in his first nine collegiate matches with four falls and three major decisions
• Went 5-1 at the Binghamton Open and finished as the runner-up in the New York State Intercollegiate meet, dropping a 5-3 decision in the finals to teammate Chris Dowdy.
• Simaz went 1-2 at the Southern Scuffle and 4-2 at the Millersville Open while picking up wins in dual meets against Harvard and Hofstra.

Prior to Cornell
• Simaz was a two-time state wrestling champion at Allegan Senior HS, capturing titles as a sophomore and senior.
• He was a finalist for Michigan Wrestler of the Year as a senior.
• He led his team to the state final four four times and to the finals as a sophomore.
• Simaz was a two-year wrestling captain.
• An eight-time letter winner, he earned all-conference accolades seven times in three sports (wrestling, football and baseball).
• He also earned a spot on the Michigan Grappler Dream Team in his final season.
• Simaz was a two-time captain of the football team while playing linebacker and wingback, helping the squad to a conference title in 2011.
• He captained the baseball team as a senior.

Personal
• Taylor Maurice Simaz is the son of Joe and Annette Simaz and has three brothers.
• His brother Eric wrestled for Central Michigan University and brother Cam ’12 was a four-time All-American and 2012 national champion at Cornell.
• His younger brother Kyle is also a member of the Big Red wrestling team.
• He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
