Biography

As a senior (2018-19)

• Made his third NCAA Championship appearance, earning an at-large spot after taking seventh at EIWAs.
• Named first-team All-Ivy League.
• Went 8-4 against EIWA opponents as part of a 15-10 season.
• All 10 losses came against NCAA qualifiers.
• Was a perfect 5-0 against Ivy League opponents.
• Joined teammate Brandon Womack as the program’s 30th and 31st Big Red wrestlers to earn three bids to nationals.
 

As a junior (2017-18)

• Made his second NCAA Championship appearance in three years at heavyweight.
• Named honorable mention All-Ivy League.
• Finished with a 21-8 overall record, including nine bonus wins.
• Wrestled four NCAA qualifiers in placing third at EIWAs, topping Brett Dempsey of American (MD, 8-0), Antonio Pelusi of Franklin & Marshall (D, 4-1) and No. 15 Garrett Ryan of Columbia (D, 5-4) en route to earning his second NCAA appearance.
• Seven of his eight losses came to nationally-ranked opponents.
• Won the Franklin & Marshall Open and reached the podium at the Las Vegas Invitational with an eighth-place effort.
• Closed the season by going 16-4 in his final 20 matches with six wins over NCAA qualifiers.
 

As a sophomore (2016-17)

• Went 12-11 at heavyweight, including 4-4 in dual meet action.
• Was second at the season-opening Binghamton Open.
• Won both matches at the Grapple at the Garden, earning wins over both Hofstra and Rutgers in Big Red victories.
• His win over Ohio State's Josh Fox sealed Cornell's win over No. 4 Ohio State in the NWCA Ntional Duals Series.
• Also wrestled at the Las Vegas Invitational and the Southern Scuffle.
 

As a freshman (2015-16)

• Qualified for his first NCAA tournament with a sixth-place finish at the EIWA Championship.
• Earned honorable mention All-Ivy accolades.
• Was 22-16 on the season.
• Was 6-13 on the year against NCAA qualifiers.
• Was 13-6 against EIWA foes and 7-2 vs. Ivy League opponents.
• Finished third at the Binghamton Open and was 3-3 at the Las Vegas Invitational and 2-2 at the Southern Scuffle.
• Dropped a 6-4 contest to then-No. 2 Ty Walz of Virginia Tech in Vegas.
• Picked up his biggest win of the year with a 5-2 triumph over No. 13 Collin Jensen of Nebraska at the Grapple at the Garden.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Sweany was a two-time California state champion at Vacaville HS.
• Ranked among the nation’s top 100 recruits as a senior according to Intermat and was sixth nationally at 220 pounds according to FloWrestling.
• Earned Junior Greco All-America honors twice, including runner-up in 2012, and finished as runner-up at FloNationals in 2013.
• Posted a 177-25 record in his four-year high school career.
• Sweany also played football.
 

Personal

• Jeramy Micah Sweany is the son of Jerry and Melinda Sweany and has a twin sister, Amery, as well as a younger brother and sister.
• He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
