Biography

As a senior (2018-19)

• Took eighth place and NCAAs to earn All-America status for the first time.
• Rebounded after a first round loss to win four consecutive in the back draw to earn his spot on the podium.
• Went 23-7 on the season with 12 bonus wins.
• Earned a spot in the EIWA finals.
• First-team All-Ivy League selection.
• Sported an 11-2 record against EIWA foes, including a 7-6 upset of then-No. 3 Patrick Brucki of Princeton and a 6-2 win over then No. 15-Jake Jakobsen of Lehigh.
• Was 10-2 in dual meets, including 5-0 vs. Ivy opponents with a win by fall, two by tech fall and a major decision.
• Entered the NCAA tournament with 12 wins in his last 14 matches with the only losses coming to wrestlers ranked in the top three nationally.
• Posted four wins over top 20 wrestlers.
• Won the Bearcat Open with three consecutive wins by fall. 
 

As a junior (2017-18)

• Honis went 10-7 on the season, spending time in the lineup at both 197 pounds and heavyweight.
• Was 4-4 in dual meet competition, including 1-2 in Ivy League action.
• Finished third at the Binghamton Open at 197 pounds.
• Was 2-2 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, including a 9-2 win over 15th-ranked Christian Brunner of Purdue and a one-point overtime loss to NCAA qualifier Rocco Caywood of Army West Point.
• Spent the new year at heavyweight, including a key win over Minnesota at the South Beach Duals to help Cornell to the dual meet upset.
• Was 3-4 at heavyweight with three of his losses coming by a takedown or less.
 

As a sophomore (2016-17)

• 2017 NCAA qualifier after finishing third at the EIWA tournament.
• Posted a 30-16 record, including 17 bonus wins.
• Was 1-2 in his first NCAA tournament, including an 11-2 victory over Iowa State's Marcus Harrington in the consolation first round.
• Placed second at the Binghamton Open, third at the New York State championships and reached the podium at the Southern Scuffle, placing seventh.
• Owned wins over nationally ranked Rocco Caywood of Army (4-3) and two against 2016 All-American Brett Harner of Princeton (7-6 in the dual, fall in 4:12 at Easterns).
 

As a freshman (2015-16)

• Was 8-6 as a freshman, including placing second at Brockport and collecting three wins in both the Southern Scuffle and the Edinboro Open.
 

Prior to Cornell

• Placed third at the New York state championships as a senior at Jamesville Dewitt HS.
• Was 34-2 as a senior with 23 of his victories coming by fall.
• Earned a pair of sectional titles.
• Was a four-year captain of the wrestling team.
• Member of a state runner-up lacrosse team.
• Captained the football team and earned a total of four letters between his time on the gridiron and with lacrosse.
 

Personal

• Benjamin Konrad Honis is the son of Kurt and Maria Honis and has a sister and brother.
• He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
