Biography
As a senior (2019-20)
• Rowed on the Cornell E 4+ boat in Flight 1 at the Cornell Autumn Classic, as the team completed the race in 13:06.79.
• Helped the Cornell C 8+ boat to an 11th place finish among 22 boats in Flight 2 of the Cornell Autumn Classic with a time of 11:54.95.
• Spring 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19.
As a junior (2018-19)
• Competed in six regattas as a junior, rowing primarily on the third or fourth varsity eight boat.
• Most commonly occupied the first seat, but also rowed in the second and seventh seats over the course of the season.
• Rowed on the fourth varsity eight in races against Harvard/George Washington, Navy/Syracuse (Stagg Trophy), and Yale/Princeton (Carnegie Cup).
• Competed on the third varsity eight at the 2019 EARC Sprints and 2019 IRA National Championships.
• At the IRA National Championships, rowed the third Varsity eight to a win in the Third Level Final and a 13th place overall finish.
As a sophomore (2017-18)
• Rowed in both the second and third varsity eight during the 2017-18 season.
• Helped the third varsity eight to a sixth place finish in the Petite Final at the 2018 IRA National Championships, placing 12th overall.
• Led the second varsity eight to a third-place finish in the Petite Final at the 2018 EARC Sprints to take ninth place finish overall.
• Rowed in the second varsity eight that defeated Penn to help the Big Red take home the James Wray Memorial Trophy for the 11th consecutive season.
As a freshman (2016-17)
• Consistent member of the third varsity eight during his rookie season.
• Helped the crew to a victory over Penn.
• Rowed with the third varsity eight at the 2017 EARC Sprints, taking third in the Petite Final and ninth overall.
• Also helped the crew place fifth in the Petite Final and eleventh overall at the 2017 IRA National Championships.
Prior to Cornell
• Rowed with the Pelham Community Rowing Association.
• As a junior, he won a bronze medal at the Northeast Championships in the coxed four and helped that same crew place 23rd at the Head of the Charles.
• During his senior year, he finished 29th at the Head of the Charles in the coxed four and qualified second at the New York State Championships for Youth Nationals in the boys’ eight.
• Also played basketball and baseball at the Bronx High School of Science.
Personal
• William Schorsch Goetz is the son of Robert and Debra Goetz and he has two brothers.
• Both his grandfather and great-grandfather attended Cornell.
• Enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
