Biography
• IRA All-Academic Team (2017)
Career
Rowed in the U.S. men’s eight that finished just off the podium, taking fourth place at the 2017 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. A two-year member of the varsity eight.
As a junior (2016-17)
• Consistent member of the varsity eight throughout his junior season.
• Helped the crew take a sixth-place finish in the Petite Final at the 2017 IRA National Championships, placing twelfth overall.
• Rowed the varsity eight to a solid victory in the Petite Final at the 2017 EARC Sprints with a time that would have placed them ahead of sixth-place Brown’s pace in the Grand Finals.
• Also defeated Penn, winning the Madeira Cup.
As a sophomore (2015-16)
• Helped the second varsity eight to victory over Syracuse and Navy in the battle for the Stagg Points Plate, before rowing in the third varsity eight that beat Penn and Dartmouth for the James Wray Memorial Trophy.
• Rowed in the third varsity eight that finished fourth at the 2016 Eastern Sprints, missing out on a bronze medal by three-tenths of a second.
• At the 2016 IRA National Championship, he helped the second varsity eight to a second place finish in the Petite Finals to take eighth place overall.
• Rowed in the Cornell eight that advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Temple Challenge Cup at the 177th edition of the Henley Royal Regatta.
As a freshman (2014-15)
• In his first season, Putnam rowed with the first freshmen eight that had the Big Red’s best finish of the day at the 2015 IRA Regatta, advancing to the Grand Finals and crossing the line fifth overall.
• Rowed with the first freshmen eight that took fourth overall at the 2015 ECAC Sprints.
Prior to Cornell
• Earned four varsity letters at Noble and Greenough School, serving as team captain as a junior and senior.
• Also swam for nine years and was named USA Swimming Scholastic All-American in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke for the 2013-2014 Season.
Personal
• Eliot Thwing Putnam is the son of Eliot and Kara Putnam and he has two sisters.
• Enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
