Biography

At Cornell
As a junior (2016-17)

• Began his junior year as a member of the fourth varsity eight against Penn and Harvard.
• Rowed for the third varsity eight for the remainder of the season.
• Helped the crew defeat Princeton, Columbia & MIT, and Dartmouth.
• Also rowed for the third varsity eight that placed fourth in the Grand Final at the 2017 EARC Sprints.

As a sophomore (2015-16) 
• Rowed in the fourth varsity eight that took the bronze medal at the 2016 Eastern Sprints.
• Helped Cornell earn the Leonard Cup with a win over Penn and Harvard, as well as posting victories over Princeton and Yale.
• Rowed in the Cornell lightweight eight that won its qualifying round to earn a spot in the Temple Challenge Cup at the 177th edition of the Henley Royal Regatta.

Prior to Cornell 
• Rowed for three seasons at Canisius High School, serving as team captain during the 2010-11 season.
• Helped the men’s freshmen eight win the 2011 New York State Championship, before taking home a pair of golds by winning the second varsity eight and the lightweight eight at the 2013 New York State Championship.
• Also earned a silver medal in the varsity eight at the 2014 New York State Championship.
• Rowed in the men’s lightweight eight that won the B Final at the 2013 USRowing Youth National Championships.
• As a member of the West Side Rowing Club he won a gold medal at the 2015 St. Catharine's Invitational in the men’s senior heavyweight eight.
 
Personal
• Michael Andrew Battaglia is the son of Laura Ba Battaglia and he has one older brother, Matthew ’16.
• Enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
