Biography

A five-time NCAA All-American, Evdokimov graduated as one of the most decorated swimmers in school history. The school and Ivy League record-holder in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, he closed his career with a fourth place finish in the 100 breast and a fifth-place effort in the 200 breast at the 2018 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships to capture first-team All-America honors. He previously earned honorable mention All-America accolades in 2017 (13th in the 200, 14th in the 100) and in 2016 (15th in the 200). Evdokimov swept the 100 and 200 breast at the Ivy Championship in four consecutive seasons, becoming the first student-athlete to do so in the breaststroke and just the fourth swimmer to win four titles in more than one event. The school-record holder in the 100 and 200 breast and as part of the 400 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relays, he graduated with pool records at Cornell, Harvard, Princeton and Brown.

As a senior (2017-18)
• Closed his career with a fourth place finish in the 100 breast and a fifth-place effort in the 200 breast at the 2018 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships to capture first-team All-America honors.
• Swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the Ivy League Championships for the fourth consecutive season, becoming the first Ancient Eight swimmer to do so in the breast events.
• Registered an NCAA A cut and automatic qualifying time for the national meet in the 200 breast, touching the wall in 1:52.28 - a school, pool, meet and conference record.
• Topped his own meet and school record by 1.28 seconds and lowered the pool record by an incredible 3.68 seconds.
• Ripped off a school, pool and meet record in the 100 breast at the Ivy Championship, becoming the first Big Red swimmer to go under 52 seconds in the process with a dominant 51.85 time in the finals.
• Lowered his own pool record of 52.76 set in the prelims by nearly a full second and wiped out race runner-up Daniel Chang of Harvard by almost two seconds.
• His own school record was more than two seconds faster than any other swimmer at Cornell.
• Became the 11th four-time event winner in conference history.
• Joined an elite list of Ivy swimmers who won four titles in more than one event - Yale's Alex Righi (50 and 100 free), Harvard's John Cole (500, 1000 and 1650 free in 2001-02-03-05) and the Crimson's Dan Shevchik (400 IM, 200 back in 2000-01-02-03).
• Along with his first-team All-Ivy honors in the 100 and 200 breast, also captured second-team All-Ivy accolades as a member of the 200 medley relay squad.
• Also scored in the 50 free at the Ivy meet.
• Won both the 100 and 200 breast events at the Ithaca Invitational.
• Captured a total of seven dual meet victories during the season.
• Named Cornell's Charles H. Moore Senior Athlete of the Year.

As a junior (2016-17)
• Earned honorable mention All-America honors in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the NCAA championships.
• Finished 13th overall in the 200 and placing 14th in the 100 breast at NCAAs.
• Swept the breaststroke events at the Ivy League championships for the third straight year, setting a conference, meet and school record in the 100 (52.13), shaving 0.33 of the previous Ivy mark - one he already owned.
• Swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay that crushed the previous school record by more than a second in winning the Akron Zippy Invitational title in 1:26.44.
• Showed his versatility by swimming legs on the 200 free (third, 1:19.94) and 400 free (fourth, 2:57.78) relays at the Zippy Invitational.
Won both the 100 and 200 breast events at the Zippy Invite, then swept both events against Columbia and Brown.
• Named to the Academic All-Ivy team.
• Placed 10th in the 100 breast and 11th in the 200 at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.

As a sophomore (2015-16)
• Finished 15th at NCAAs in the 200 breast and 23rd in the 100 breast, garnering honorable mention All-America accolades in the 200.
• Set Cornell and Ivy League records in the 200 breast and repeated his conference title in the 100 breast as well.
• Was named the swimming team MVP.
• Earlier in the year, he set an Ivy League, pool and school record with his electric 1:53.56 time in the 200 breast finals at the 2016 Ivy League Championships, shaving more than two seconds off his prelim time, which had lowered his own school record by more than a quarter-second.
• His time was more than three and a half seconds faster than anyone else in Cornell history.
• Evdokimov’s time of 52.46 in the finals of the 100 breast set a pool and meet record as well as a school mark and was more than a second faster than runner-up Shane McNamara of Harvard.
• It also lowered his own school record by .67 seconds and is nearly a second and a half faster than anyone else in Cornell history.
• Evdokimov became the first Ivy League swimmer since Princeton's Garth Fealey in 2002 and 2003 to sweep the conference breaststroke titles in consecutive seasons.
• Named Academic All-Ivy.

As a freshman (2014-15)
• Evdokimov exploded onto the scene at the Ivy League Championship, winning both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.
• Earned first-team All-Ivy accolades in both events.
• He crushed school records in both breaststroke events, becoming the first Cornellian to win an Ivy title in the sport since 2010.
• He was one of four competitors to win multiple individual events at the Ivy meet and became the first Cornellian to win multiple events in the same season since Dave McKechnie also won the 100 and 200 breast races in 2007.
• Shared team MVP honors with Dylan Sali.
• Won 100 breast races in dual meets against Columbia and Brown.

Prior to Cornell
• Evdokimov was state champion in the 100 breast as a junior at J.P. Taravella HS.
• A team co-captain in his final season, he earned team MVP honors and was named a scholar-athlete.
• While swimming for the Coral Springs Swim Club, Evdokimov won the 18-and-under 200 breast at winter nationals in 2013.
• The club’s Swimmer of the Year in 2013-14, he earned the Coach’s Award the previous year.

Personal
• Ilya Evdokimov is the son of Antonio and Elena Fallucca and has three older stepsisters.
• He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
