As a senior (2018-19)

• Missed the entire season.
 

As a junior (2017-18)

• Placed seventh at NCAAs at 165 pounds to earn All-America honors.
• Won the EIWA title to qualify for his first nationals and concluded the season with a 24-6 record.
• Named honorable mention All-Ivy League after wrestling in just one conference dual meet.
• Went 6-1 in dual meet action and earned five of his wins by fall.
• Topped Princeton's Jonathan Schleifer in the finals at EIWAs by a 10-4 margin - one of three NCAA qualifiers he defeated on the way to the title.
• Of his six losses, five came against wrestlers ranked in the top 11.
• Posted three wins against nationally ranked grapplers, including a 2-1 win over Nebraska's Isaiah White and a 10-5 victory over Oklahoma State's Chandler Rogers at NCAAs.
• Won the Bearcat Open to begin the season, part of a 9-0 start to the year. 
• Reached the podium at the Las Vegas Invitational, taking eighth overall with a pair of wins by fall.
 

As a sophomore (2016-17)

• Did not see varsity competition.
 

As a freshman (2015-16)

• Chavez saw action in one dual meet as a freshman, dropping a contest to No. 3 Nathaniel Brown of Lehigh at 197 pounds.
 

Prior to Cornell

• A four-time Fargo national champion, Chavez won a pair of Idaho state titles at Centennial HS before graduating from De La Salle HS in California.
• Named Most Outstanding Wrestler at Junior Greco tournament in Fargo in 2013.
• Ranked the nation’s #32 overall recruit in the Class of 2014 by D1CollegeWrestling.net.
• He was a three-time FILA Greco-Roman World Team member (2013-15).
• Took bronze at the FILA Cadet World Championships in Serbia at 152 pounds in 2013,
• Chavez was a two-time team captain who wrestled from 119 all the way to 160 during high school.
• Was a state place-winner in California as a sophomore.
 

Personal

• Jonathon Jay Chavez is the son of Robert Chavez and Elisa Frew and has a younger brother and sister.
• He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business.
