Biography
• IRA All-Academic Team (2019)
As a senior (2018-19)
• Rowed in all nine regattas on the first Varsity eight as a senior.
• Occupied a variety of seats over the course of the season, including the sixth, seventh, and eighth seats.
• Helped the first Varsity eight to victories over Georgetown and No. 12 Penn, as the team crossed the finish line first in 5:30.80 to hoist the Madeira Cup and lead the Big Red to the James Wray Memorial Trophy.
• Assisted Cornell to a second place finish in the Petite Final at the 2019 EARC Sprints, placing eighth overall and fifth among Ivy schools.
• Rowed the Big Red to a sixth place showing in the Petite Final at the 2019 IRA National Championships, finishing 12th overall.
As a junior (2017-18)
• Stroked the varsity eight throughout the 2017-18 season.
• Helped the varsity eight win the Third Level Final at the 2018 IRA National Championships, placing 13th overall.
• Led the varsity eight to a third-place finish in the Petite Final at the 2018 EARC Sprints to beat its seed with a ninth place finish overall.
• Stroked the crew that defeated Syracuse and Navy to win the Goes Cup.
• Won a gold medal with the United States in the men's eight event at the 2018 Under 23 World Rowing Championships, held on the world-renowned Malta regatta course in Poznan, Poland.
As a sophomore (2016-17)
• Consistent member of the varsity eight throughout his sophomore season.
• Helped the crew take a sixth-place finish in the Petite Final at the 2017 IRA National Championships, placing twelfth overall.
• Rowed the varsity eight to a solid victory in the Petite Final at the 2017 EARC Sprints with a time that would have placed them ahead of sixth-place Brown’s pace in the Grand Finals.
• Also defeated Penn, winning the Madeira Cup.
As a freshman (2015-16)
• The only freshman to row in the varsity eight, Grady helped the Big Red defeat Syracuse and Penn to win the Goes Cup, as well as beating Penn and Dartmouth to take home the Madeira Cup.
• At the 2016 Eastern Sprints, he helped the varsity eight to a fifth place finish, before winning the Third Level Final at the IRA National Championship for a 13th place finish overall.
• Rowed in the Cornell heavyweight 4- that competed in the Visitors’ Challenge Cup at the 177th edition of the Henley Royal Regatta.
Prior to Cornell
• Earned three varsity letters in rowing at Central Catholic High School, serving as team captain as a senior.
• Internationally, he finished ninth in the eight at the 2014 World Rowing Junior Championships and took eighth in the four with coxswain at the 2013 World Rowing Junior Championships.
• With Central Catholic, Grady won a gold medal with the varsity eight at the 2013 SRAA National Championship before winning the bronze at the 2014 SRRA National Championship.
• Also took fourth at the 2014 Youth National Championship.
Personal
• Michael Liam Grady is the son of John and Tracy Grady and he has two sisters and one brother.
• Enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
