Second Team All-Ivy League (2019)


As a senior (2019)

  • Started all 17 games during her final season at Cornell
  • Totaled two goals and two defensive saves
  • Notched her two defensive saves in the first weekend against Syracuse and Lock Haven
  • Scored the lone goal against Bucknell for the 1-0 win
  • Converted two of two penalty strokes on the season

As a junior (2018)

  • Started all 17 games on the season.
  • Ranked second on the team with three goals.
  • Finished third on the team with seven points on the season.
  • Tallied three game-winning goals on the season, a mark good for eighth overall in Cornell history.
  • Finished the year ranked third in the NCAA standings with seven defensive saves.
  • Ranked second in Cornell history for defensive saves in a season (7).

As a sophomore (2017)

  • The team’s top midfielder, playing nearly every minute of every game.
  • Ranked third on the team in goals and fourth overall in assists.
  • Was instrumental to the Big Red’s defensive scheme, helping Cornell to the third-best defense in the Ivy League.
  • Converted 2-of-3 penalty strokes on the year.
  • Registered the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Bucknell.

As a freshman (2016)

  • Started all 17 games in the midfield for the Big Red.
  • Finished the season with five points on two goals and one assist.
  • Converted a penalty stroke to provide the game-winner in the 58th minute vs. Yale
  • Was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for her performance against the Bulldogs.

Prior to Cornell

  • Was a member of the Herschel Girls School varsity team for three seasons, serving as team captain in 2015 and leading the team to three Grand Challenge League championships.
  • A member of Herschel’s Indoor Hockey varsity for four years, serving as team captain and helping the squad to win the Grand Challenge Indoor League four times.
  • Won the school’s 2015 Theresa Bridgman Trophy for Sportswoman of the Year, as well as the school’s Bonellie Trophy for Hockey, awarded to the girl who has achieved throughout her hockey career at Herschel, has been an asset to her team both on and off the field and has shown an encouraging and positive attitude towards her teammates.
  • Selected for the South African All-Stars U18 Indoor Hockey Team in 2014 and 2015 and participated at the Pro Series National Indoor Hockey tournament.
  • A member of an Indoor hockey team that represented the Western Province of South Africa and won the tournament three consecutive years, serving as team captain twice during that span (2013 and 2015).
  • Represented the Western Province in her respective age groups since 2011 and in 2015 she was selected for the Western Province U18A team that won the gold medal at the Inter- Provincial Tournament.
  • Also a member of the Constantiaberg Club Field Hockey First Team and was named the MVP of the club in 2013.

Personal

  • Kirsten Susan Pienaar is the daughter of Tim and Sue Pienaar and she has one older sister.
