Biography
As a sophomore (2019-20)
• Competed at all nine meets for the Big Red as a sophomore, including the Ivy League Championships.
• Scored points for the Big Red in the 1000- and 1650-freestyle events at Ivies, posting the eighth-fastest time in Cornell history (10:12.86) in the 1000-freestyle.
• Recorded a top-eight finish in the 1650-freestyle at Akron’s Zippy Invitational, placing seventh with a personal-best time of 17:07.37.
• Finished among the top-three of five individual races at dual meets over the course of the season.
• Placed third in both the 500-freestyle and 1000-freestyle against St. Bonaventure, helping Cornell secure the team victory.
• Also finished third in the 1000-freestyle at Ivy League duals against Columbia and Brown.
As a freshman (2018-19)
• Placed 20th in the 1000 free, and 25th in the 400 IM at the Ivy League Championships.
• Posted a career best time in the 1,000 free (10:27.44) at the Ivy meet.
• Finished fourth in the 200 free against St. Bonaventure.
• Placed fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 400 IM against Yale.
Prior to Cornell
• Harper won league titles in the 200 and 500 free as a senior at Sonora HS.
• Captured league Swimmer of the Year honors in 2018.
• Part of three league championship teams.
• Was a four-time CIF finalist in the 500 free.
• Earned a spot at Junior Nationals in the 1000 free in 2016.
• Selected to receive the Freeway League Most Inspiration Award in 2015.
Personal
• Lavona Evan Harper is the daughter of Tom Harper and Rosalva Duenas and has an older brother and sister.
• She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
