Biography
As a freshman (2019-20)
• Competed in all nine meets for the Big Red during her freshman season, including the Ivy League Championships.
• Raced in the 100-backstroke and 200-backstroke at Ivies, as well as on the 200-medley relay that posted the 10th-fastest time (1:43.03) in Big Red history.
• Notched collegiate personal bests in the 100-backstroke (57.76) and 200-backstroke (2:06.67) at Akron’s Zippy Invitational.
• Secured a collegiate personal-record in the 100-butterfly (59.73) against Columbia.
• Posted second-place finishes in the 100-backstroke at meets against St. Bonaventure and Binghamton, helping Cornell to a pair of team victories.
Prior to Cornell
• Four-time team captain and letterman at the Lakeside School.
• Was a seven-time individual state finalist in the 100 fly and 100 back, including a pair of top-two finishes in the 100 backstroke.
• Swam the butterfly leg on Lakeside’s 200 medley relay team that broke the Washington State Record and won the 2017 State Championship.
• Holds school records in the 200 medley relay, 400 free relay, 100 fly, and 100 back (which had stood since 1987).
• Closed out her high school career as a seven-time District Champion and 10-time Metro Champion.
• Competed on the club circuit for the Bellevue Club Swim Team.
Personal
• Isabel Tse Chien is the daughter of Jason Chien and Margaret Liu and has one older sister.
• Her aunt, Annie Chen, is a Cornell alumna.
• She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
