Biography
• IRA All-Academic Team (2019)
As a junior (2019-20)
• Rowed from the third seat on the Big Red’s men’s championship eight boat at the Head of the Charles Regatta, helping Cornell post a time of 14:54.47.
• Helped the Cornell B 4+ boat to a seventh place finish in Flight 1 at the Cornell Autumn Classic, as the boat completed the race in 12:41.78.
• Rowed on the Cornell A 8+ boat in Flight 2 at the Cornell Autumn Classic, helping the group place fourth among 22 boats and post the fastest Big Red heavyweight time (11:13.67) of the day.
• Spring 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19.
As a sophomore (2018-19)
• Rowed in all nine regattas as a sophomore, primarily on the second varsity eight.
• Helped the second varsity eight place fourth in the Petite Final at the 2019 EARC Sprints, finishing 10th overall.
• Led the second varsity eight to a sixth place showing in the Petite Final at the 2019 IRA National Championships, placing 12th overall.
• Guided the second varsity eight to wins over Penn and Georgetown with a time of 5:38.97, helping the Big Red claim the James Wray Memorial Trophy.
• Helped the second varsity eight defeat Oregon State and Marist at the Las Vegas Invitational, crossing the finish line in 5:57.60.
As a freshman (2017-18)
• Rowed in the second varsity eight throughout the 2017-18 season.
• Helped the second varsity eight to a sixth place finish in the Petite Final at the 2018 IRA National Championships, placing 12th overall.
• Led the second varsity eight to a third-place finish in the Petite Final at the 2018 EARC Sprints to take ninth place finish overall.
• Rowed in the second varsity eight that defeated Penn to help the Big Red take home the James Wray Memorial Trophy for the 11th consecutive season.
Prior to Cornell
• Earned three varsity letters in rowing at Episcopal Academy.
• Served as team captain as a senior.
• Helped the varsity eight to back-to-back gold medals at the Philadelphia City Championships in 2016 and 2017, after helping the varsity four to a gold medal at the 2015 regatta.
• Won consecutive gold medals at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta with the varsity four (2015) and varsity eight (2016), before finishing fifth in the varsity eight in 2017.
• Took home back-to-back silver medals from the SRAA National Championship Regatta racing with the varsity four (2015) and varsity eight (2016), before finishing fifth in the varsity eight in 2017.
• Helped the varsity eight to a seventh place finish at the 2016 USRowing Youth Nationals.
• Won his team’s Mind, Body Spirit Prize in 2015, awarded to the rower with the highest level of commitment and achievement in the classroom and athletics, as well as the 2017 Oar Award, given to that member of the crew team with the greatest contribution to the program.
• Also raced with the Fairmount Rowing Association, helping the varsity eight to a fourth place finish at the Canadian Henley Regatta in 2015 and 2016, as well as a second place finish in the varsity four at the 2016 event.
• Earned three varsity letters in cross country at Episcopal Academy.
Personal
• Nicholas Talbot Horbowy is the son of Andy Horbowy and Lynda Talbot and he has an older brother and a younger sister.
• Enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
