Biography
As a freshman (2019-20)
• Competed in eight meets for Cornell as a freshman, including the Ivy League Championships.
• Swam on the school record-breaking 800-freestyle relay team at the conference meet, helping the group finish sixth with the fastest time in Cornell history (6:31.25).
• Scored points for the Big Red in the 1650-freestyle (15:44.15) and 1000-freestyle (9:29.89) at Ivies, qualifying for the C Final of both events and placing 21st and 22nd, respectively.
• Also competed in the 500-freestyle at the Ivy League Championships, swimming the ninth-fastest time in the Big Red record books (4:29.28).
• Finished in the top-10 of all-three individual events he swam at the Zippy Invitational, placing fifth in the 500-freestyle (4:32.63), seventh in the 1650-freestyle (16:00.31) and 10th in the 200-freestyle (1:40.86).
• Helped the 800-freestyle relay team to a second-place finish and Cornell all-time top-10 mark at the Zippy Invitational.
• Finished among the top-five of his individual events at dual meets six times over the course of the season.
• Had a solid showing at Cornell’s Ivy League dual against Columbia, placing second in the 500-freestyle and third in the 1000-freestyle.
Prior to Cornell
• Four year letterman at Lafayette HS where he was elected team captain for the 2018-19 season.
• 2019 State Champion and state record holder in the 500 free, 200 medley relay, and 400 free relay.
• 2019 State Runner-Up in the 200 free.
• Named a Scholastic All-American in 2018 and 2019.
• Deemed the Daily Press Swimmer of the Year in 2019.
• Named the Virginia Gazette Swimmer of the Year in 2017.
• Swam on the club circuit for Williamsburg Aquatic Club where he was a four-time Most Valuable Swimmer.
Personal
• Christopher Hugo Kostelni is the son of Jeffrey and Anna Kostelni and has one older sister.
• He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
