Research
One of the really special things about the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course is the unique opportunity to develop a close relationship with some of the foremost experts in the field of Turfgrass Science. Golf Course Superintendent David Hicks values this expertise and continually strives to establish and maintain collaborative efforts between the Golf Course and our friends on the scientific side of the fence. To help foster these relationships, Dave is a member of the Cornell Turfgrass Team (a diverse group of Researchers and Professors who meet monthly to develop programs that will help further the art and science of turfgrass maintenance in New York State and throughout the world). We also encourage researchers to work with us to test out new products and theories on the course. This way, we are on the cutting edge of advancements in turfgrass maintenance, and we get "real world data" to validate our studies.

History of the Golf Course
The 18-hole University Golf Course, the front nine of which was completed in 1954 with funds contributed by alumni, is a championship course designed by the noted golf architect Robert Trent Jones (Cornell '30). The back nine layout (between Warren Road and Pleasant Grove Road) was the university's first nine holes and has been in use since 1941. Until the University had its own course, Cornell golf matches were played at the Country Club of Ithaca.

The University Course has been the site of several prestigious golf tournaments, including the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association Tournament, the New York State High School Championships, the Ivy League Championships, and the 1961 National Junior Championships of the United States Golf Association.

History of the Moakley House
The Moakley House, completed in 1953, is located on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. Built with funds contributed by alumni, the building honors the late John F. Moakley, who was head track and cross country coach from 1899 through 1949. The Moakley House includes a Memorial Lounge, a Faculty Lounge (gift of Jansen Noyes '10), a snack bar (gift of the Class of 1916), and locker rooms. In the Memorial Lounge, a gift of Ernest Kanzler in honor of his brother, Henry G. Kanzler '13, are pictures of many of the great Cornell athletes, coaches, athletic administrators and advisors.

Varsity Golf Team
Cornell participates in Division 1 Athletics as part of the Ivy League. The golf team begins the season in August with open tryouts and finishes up in April with the Ivy League Championships. For more information about joining the golf team you can contact head coach Matt Baughan at (607) 254-6531. You can also visit the Cornell Athletics website for the latest scores and reports.

McCormick's At Moakley House
McCormick's at Moakley House offers a casual environment close to campus, open daily through the season. Treat a campus visitor to an impeccably served luncheon, stop for refreshments after a round of golf, meet coworkers at the end of the day for a burger and a beer, or bring the family for a relaxing weekend brunch.

Named for Jack McCormick, a varsity golfer from the Cornell Class of 1957 whose will included a bequest to modernize Moakley House, this eatery alongside the award-winning Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University isn't just for golfers. It's open to the public and has plenty of parking, and we welcome everyone for a drink, a snack, or a meal.
