Chiara Tranquilli joined the Big Red staff as a volunteer assistant coach prior to the 2018-19 season.

In her first season, Tranquilli helped the Big Red to its highest team finish in the NCAA era as Cornell had two individual top 10 finishes and placed 14th overall as a team.  

A member of the 2012 Italian National Fencing Team, Tranquilli was the 2009 bronze medal winner in individual foil at the Fencing World Cup in Luxemburg. She also took gold in the foil team competition at the 2014 Italian Fencing Championship and earned silver at the 2017 event.
 
Prior to her arrival on East Hill, Tranquilli served as a fencing coach for four years with the Frascati Scherma Fencing Club in Rome. She is also a certified national fencing referee in Italy and is a certified international referee for modern pentathlon.
 
Tranquilli is a 2018 graduate of the University of Rome Tor Vergata with a bachelor’s degree in economics and management.
