Biography

At Cornell: For the third year in a row, Baines led the Big Red foils, posting a record of 29-15 (.659). At the 2009 IFA championships, she had a fifth place showing in pool-B, finishing 15th overall with a 7-4 record. Baines finished her sophomore season with a record of 27-14 (.659). At the IFA championships, she finished tenth in the B division with a 4-7 record. Baines had an outstanding rookie campaign, leading the foil squad with a record of 36-19 (.655), including a 9-9 performance in Ivy League competition. Baines finished the season strong with a ninth-place finish at the IFA championship and a 15th place finish at the NCAA regionals.

Prior to Cornell: Baines fenced for Holy Angels HS as well as the Fencing Academy of Westchester under the direction Coach Slava Grigoriev. A two-year captain at Holy Angels, she led her team to a 24-2 record and was named second team all-state. Prior to coming to Cornell, Baines was a six-year competitor on the regional and national scene, earning a “D” ranking. 

Personal: Dana Haley Baines is the daughter of Susan and Bruce Baines and has two older brothers and one younger brother. She is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
