Biography

At Cornell: Dietrich continued to contribute positively to the epee squad during her junior year, posting a 15-14 record (.517). At the 2009 IFA championships, she had a second place showing in pool-B, finishing 11th overall with a 8-3 record. She went on to finish eighth at the NCAA regionals with a 12-10 record, advancing to her second straight NCAA tournament. At NCAAs, she earned three wins to finish 21st overall. Dietrich posted a solid 20-11 record (.645) during her sophomore year, including a mark of 4-4 in Ivy League action. Her 20 wins ranked third on the epee squad. She helped the Big Red epee squad to a fourth place finish at the IFA championships after taking sixth in the B division with a record of 5-5. The following weekend at the NCAA regionals, Dietrich had a phenomenal showing, finishing fifth overall, despite entering the competition as a 12-seed, to earn a trip to the NCAA championships. At NCAAs, Dietrich placed 22nd overall with a 6-17 record. Dietrich had one of highest career finishes at the Jr. Olympics with 48th place finish. Dietrich finished her freshman season with an overall record of 4-1 (.800) and a 1-1 mark in Ivy League competition. 

Prior to Cornell: Dietrich served as team captain for the Lincoln Fencing Club, where she learned under the tutelege of Coach Kristian Anderson. She was the winner of the 2006 Heartland Circuit and took second place in the Senior Team Women’s Epee at the 2005 Summer Nationals. She earned a “B” ranking in epee. 

Personal: Sallie Vanette Dietrich is the daughter of Wanda and Larry Dietrich and she has an older sister. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
