Biography

As a sophomore (2016-17)
• Added valuable depth to the saber squad during her sophomore season.
• Finished the year with a record of 11-10 overall.
• Was nearly perfect at the Cornell Invitational, going 6-1 on the day.
 
As a freshman (2015-16)
• Did not compete during her rookie season.

Prior to Cornell
• Was a three-year letter winner at Watchung Hills Regional High School.
• Placed ninth in the state at the 2014 Santelli Fencing Tournament.
• Helped Watchung to a second place finish overall at the 2014 district tournament, after a third place finish in 2013.
• Was a member of Advance Fencing and Fitness Academy.
 
Personal
• Valerie Li-Li Tan is the daughter of Ziming Tan ’91 and Jing Cai and she has two older sisters.
• Enrolled in the College of Engineering.
