At Cornell
Horner was a two-time first-team All-Ivy goalie and earned Second-Team Mideast Region All-American (2012).
During her time on East Hill, Horner established herself as one of the best goalies to ever wear the Red and White. She left Cornell ranked second overall for career shutouts (eight), fourth overall in winning percentage (.548), seventh in career victories (17), ninth in goals-against average (2.39) and 10th overall in both career saves (229) and save percentage (.787). During her final season, she saw her senior campaign interrupted by a mid-season injury, but still finished with a 7-5 record to go along with a 2.00 GAA and a .736 save percentage.
As a junior, Horner was named to the Mideast Region All-American second-team and was a first-team All-Ivy selection following a breakout season in goal for the Big Red. She led the Ivy League and ranked fifth nationally in save percentage while posting the league's second-best goals against average (1.88), pacing the circuit in shutouts (5) and posting the fourth-most saves (121) in her first full season as a starter. Horner was 11th in the NCAA in saves per game (7.56) and 33rd with her goals against average. She was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after earning shutout wins against Yale and Siena, making a total of 10 saves in the weekend sweep. One of the team's co-captains during the 2012 season, Horner was named the team’s defensive MVP. She had seven games in which she allowed zero or one goal and she reached double-digit saves in five games, including a season-best 15 stops against eventual national runner up, UNC.
Sophomore (2011): Horner saw a significant jump in playing time during her sophomore season, seeing action in seven games and making four starts on the season. She finished the year with an .854 save percentage and a 1.47 goals-against average in just under 333 minutes of action. Horner made more than five saves in 5-of-7 games and tallied a career-high 14 saves against Maine. She was named Ivy League Player of the Week on Sept. 6, 2011 for her efforts in a pair of victories against Villanova and Lock Haven.
Freshman (2010): Horner saw action in just one game as the team’s back-up goalie during her freshman season. She played 9:00 against Penn and did not face a shot. Following the season, she was named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad
At The Peddie School
A four-year letter winner at the Peddie School, Horner led her team to back-to-back Prep A State championships while serving as her team captain in 2008 and 2009. Following her senior season, the
Trenton Times named her the Player of the Year, first-team all-prep, first-team all-area and to the Team of the Decade first-team. She was also named the Goalie of the Year, first-team all-area and first-team all-prep by the
Trentonian, as well as
Newark Star Ledger first-team all-state and first-team all-prep. Horner was also named to the 2009 Central Jersey Coaches first-team and the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) first team. As a junior, Horner was named the
Trentonian Defensive Player of the Year. She was also named first-team all-prep by the
Trentonian, the
Trenton Times and the
Newark Star Ledger. Horner earned first-team all-area accolades by the
Trenton Times, as well as first-team All-MAPL and MAPL all-academic team accolades. Horner lettered three times in softball and won her school’s Winant Cup, as Peddie’s outstanding female scholar-athlete.
Personal
Carolyn Michael Horner is the daughter of Terry and Ann Marie Horner and she has four sisters, including a twin sister, Gabrielle, who plays lacrosse at Tufts. Her father and her older sister Kathryn both played lacrosse at Virginia and Brown, respectively. Horner is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
