Beth (Sullivan) Walkenbach `00, a former back at Cornell, rejoins the Big Red for her third season as an assistant coach for the field hockey program and second under Donna Hornibrook.
In 2003, Walkenbach returned to her alma mater to serve as the interim assistant coach under interim head coach Phil Sykes. She served as the team[apos]s recruiting and travel director and helped out with all aspects of practice and game preparation.
Walkenbach was a four-year member of the Big Red field hockey team and a two-year letter winner, playing in 38 career games, while scoring a goal and adding an assist. She has been an instrumental member of the Cornell Field Hockey Alumni Association and also has coached in the U.S. Field Hockey Futures program, identifying elite players between the ages of 15 and 18 that could eventually play for the national team.
Walkenbach also served as an assistant coach at Cumberland High School during the fall of 2000, heading up the junior varsity program and teaching skills to the varsity squad. She spent the 2002-03 school year as a sixth grade language arts teacher at Sweetwater Middle School in Lawrenceville, Ga. In addition to her coaching duties in 2003, she was a French teacher at Lansing High School. She is currently pursuing her master[apos]s degree in education at SUNY-Cortland.
A 2000 Cornell graduate, Walkenbach earned a degree in English literature and was a member of the Red Key Athletic Honorary Society.
Beth and her husband, Bill Walkenbach `99, the newly named head baseball coach at Franklin & Marshall, were married in June 2004 and reside in Ithaca.
