Terrett is a graduate of the University of Wolverhampton where he earned a degree in Sports Science and later attended Cambridge University where he completed the graduate teaching program.

In 2022, the Big Red was 10-7 season (4-3 Ivy League) and finished tied for third in the final standings. The team was playing its best hockey of the season over the final weeks, as the Big Red won four of is final five contests with victories over No. 4 Louisville, Yale and its only defeat a 2-1 overtime decision at Ivy runner-up Harvard.
Cornell was even better in 2023, setting a school record for wins (12), reaching No. 17 in the NFHCA poll and earning the No. 2 seed in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament as the conference runner-up. The Big Red led the nation in scoring average (3.21), assists per game (3.65), and points per game (10.47), all single-season school records. Cornell was also second in Division I in scoring margin (1.99) and second in the Ivy League and 15th nationally in scoring defense (1.22 goals allowed per game) with five shutouts. Caroline Ramsey was nation's No. 2 scorer and became the school's all-time scoring leader, while sister Julia paced Division I in assists. Caroline Ramsey became the first Cornellian to earn All-America honors twice, was the Northeast Regional Offensive Player of the Year, and also gained recognition as Offensive Player of the Year by the Ivy League and ECAC. In recognition of the good work of Smith and his staff, the Big Red coaches earned the NFHCA Mideast Regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2023.
The Big Red closed the 2024 season with a 7-9 record (3-4 Ivy) and tied for fourth in the final Ivy League standings, though it lost out on making the conference tournament due to tiebreakers. Cornell went 4-1 down the stretch, and six of its nine losses came against top 20 opponents. Included was a 1-0, last-second loss to then-No. 1 Northwestern and one-goal losses to nationally-ranked foes UAlbany and Louisville.
Prior To Cornell
Terrett brings over 20 years coaching experience and FIH Level 3 credentials with him to East Hill.
Most recently, Terrett served as the Head of Hockey at Swansea University in Swansea, Wales where he oversaw all aspects of the high performance and participation levels of hockey. While at Swansea, Terrett led the women’s 1st XI team to a promotion to the England Hockey Premier National League, marking the first time a Welsh team— male or female— was promoted to the UK’s top league. No stranger to the Big Red program, recent Cornell field hockey grad, Maddy Conklin ’20, made the trip overseas to play for the Swansea Hockey Club while she earns a Master’s degree.
Since 2019, Terrett has spent time coaching the Wales U21 program while assisting with the U23 team. With Terrett in the program, the Wales U21 team won bronze in Alanya, Turkey at the 2019 EuroHockey Championships B division. With the third-place finish, the team was promoted to the A division for 2022 it’ll play against the best teams in Europe.
From 1999-2017 he was the Head of Hockey at the Oundle School where he developed both the boys and girls team, increased participation and oversaw the installation of three floodlit AstroTurf pitches and supporting facilities. Managing over 60 staff, Terrett organized five international tours and lead fundraising efforts for the program. He also taught Phys. Ed. And was the Head of Boys Games, the equivalent to athletic director, where he managed a budget of nearly three million USD.
Terrett’s arrival to Ithaca marks his second coaching stint with Andy Smith. From 2017 to 2019 the pair led the University of the Pacific Tigers to three consecutive America East Conference West Division titles and helped propel the program to national prominence.
Playing Career
As a player, Terrett won twenty-five caps for Wales and represented them at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He also competed with Cannock HC, St Albans HC, Old Loughtions HC and Peterborough HC throughout his stellar career collecting multiple Premier League and National Cup titles.
