At Cornell
Jordan Hogan, a fast-rising wide receivers coach who has already worked with record-setting pass-catchers and NFL stars, joined the Cornell staff in the spring of 2017.
In his first season with the Big Red, injuries decimated the wide receiver corps, allowing new players to emerge and make an impact on the lineup. Eric Gallman set freshman receiving records in the first two games of the season before missing the final eight games, while 1,000-yard receiver and fifth-year senior Collin Shaw was also limited during the year. In their places, sophomores Owen Peters (34 receptions, 327 yards, touchdown) took over as the team's leading receiver, while sophomore Davy Lizana, juniors Lars Perdersen, Gustavo Dorsett and Garrett Cloer, the final three all converted from other positions, became offensive threats.
A total of 20 different players caught at least one pass in 2018, with five hauling in at least 20 balls. That came despite the fact that the Big Red played arguably the nation's toughest schedule, with seven of its 10 opponents ranking in the top 20 defenses in the FCS.
Hogan helped Phazione McClurge transition from defensive back to receiver in 2019 and emerge as one of the Big Red's top deep threats in recent history, catching a team-best 41 passes for 677 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, Owen Peters closed his career in the top 20 in career receiving yards (1,209) and Eric Gallman extended his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 20. The Big Red also had a number of highlight blocks on long runs by Harold Coles, helping in the run game.
Prior to Cornell
In his four seasons at Buffalo State, Hogan was responsible for many aspects of a successful program, from recruiting throughout the state of New York to running position meetings and preparing and implementing weekly game plans. Those teams went 25-17 and earned invitation to a pair of ECAC bowl games. The Bengals won the 2014 ECAC Southwest Bowl as part of an 8-3 campaign, while the 2015 squad earned an invite to the Asa S. Bushnell Bowl as part of a 7-4 season. Hogan also served as head coach of the junior varsity in 2016.
He assisted in the development of Mike Doherty, the school's single-game and career leader in receptions, as well as Ryan Carney, the leader in receiving touchdowns and highest average per reception in a season. Two receivers earned a total of four all-league accolades, including Doherty, a two-time first-team pick. His receivers set school records for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, while the offenses broke total offense and scoring marks.
Hogan had a brief stint working at Stonehill College as wide receivers coach before joining the Big Red staff.
Hogan interned with the Buffalo Bills during the summer of 2016 through the NFL's Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship. He worked with the Bills during mandatory mini and training camps under Bills' receivers coach Sanjay Lal. That work included time spent working with Bills' star Sammy Watkins. He then spent the summer of 2017 in camp with the Indianapolis Colts, working with TY Hilton and Donte Moncrief, among others.
Hogan was selected as wide receivers coach for the US National Team developmental game in July 2016.
An experienced clinician, he has served as a coach at a number of camps around the region .
Playing Career
A graduate of Newfane HS on the outskirts of Buffalo, Hogan went on to play for the College at Brockport, where he wrapped up his collegiate playing career in 2012. A three-year starter at wide receiver for the Golden Eagles, he finished fifth on the school's all-time list in receiving yards (1,546) and eighth in total catches (108). He was a preseason All-American as a senior, earned All-NJAC honors as a junior and also served as a team captain. Hogan graduated with a degree in Communication and Media Studies in 2013.
