E-mail coach Kavanagh (swk26@cornell.edu)
Scott Kavanagh enters his third season on Jim Knowles[apos] staff working and his second year as quarterbacks coach in 2006. Kavanagh was the team[apos]s wide receivers coach in 2004.
Kavanagh[apos]s work with Ryan Kuhn [apos]06 helped the first-year starter become just the second Big Red quarterback to be named first-team All-Ivy League, joining Cornell Hall of Famer Gary Wood. Kuhn became the first quarterback in Ivy League history to both run and pass for 1,000 yards in a season. He accounted for 18 touchdowns (12 rushing, six passing) and had five 100-yard rushing games - the most ever by a quarterback at Cornell.
In his first season, Kavanagh worked with All-Ivy receiver Brian Romney and big-play specialist Chad Nice, who combined for 103 catches and more than 1,400 receiving yards. In all, 11 different players caught passes for the Big Red in 2004, including six of the top seven who were underclassmen.
Kavanagh joined the Big Red staff after having spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant coach working with the quarterbacks at the University of Wisconsin.
A four-year letter winner for the Badgers (1996-99), Kavanagh[apos]s teams won back-to-back Big Ten titles (1998 and 1999), won two Rose Bowl championships (1999 and 2000) and compiled a 37-13 record over his four years.
A native of Naperville, Ill., Kavanagh earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in life sciences and communication in 2001 from Wisconsin. He is currently working on a master[apos]s degree in education administration.
