Tommy Condell, 2010

Tommy Condell

Recruiting Areas: Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, New York (Syracuse), Oklahoma, Texas.

Tommy Condell enters his third year on the Big Red sidelines as assistant head coach and wide receivers coach. He brings  more than 15 years of coaching experience to the staff and joined the program in the spring of 2010. Condell also has local connections to Cornell, growing up in Utica and playing collegiately at Cortland State, where he helped his team to a pair of ECAC titles.

In 2011, Condell tutored three All-Ivy receivers (Shane Savage - first-team, Kurt Ondash - second team, Luke Tasker - honorable mention) in Cornell's record-setting passing season. The trio combined for 176 catches for 2,763 yards and 21 touchdowns. Savage was named a third-team FCS All-American by the Associated Press after setting Big Red season records for receiving yards and touchdowns.

In his first season, Condell helped develop the tandem of  Savage and Tasker into one of the most productive in the Ivy League. The duo combined for 85 catches for 998 yards and three scores. In all, five of his top eight receivers were either first-year players or made their first career reception in 2010.

A member of the Southeastern Louisiana coaching staff under Mike Lucas, the father of recent Cornell quarterback and letter winner Tyler Lucas, he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Condell served as acting head coach over the final six games of the 2008 season. He was instrumental in the development of record-setting quarterback Brian Babin, who finished second in almost every category as a passer at Southeastern.

Like Coach Kent Austin, Condell made a name for himself in the Canadian Football League, spending one year in Winnipeg as special teams coordinator, two seasons in Ottawa as the passing game coordinator and the 2006 season in Saskatchewan as offensive coordinator. His college stops include stints at Louisiana-Monroe, Stephen F. Austin, McNeese State, Hamilton and Illinois Wesleyan. He has coached every offensive position during his career: quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, offensive line and special teams. Condell also spent a year in the Arena Football League for the Albany Firebirds with linebackers as well as running backs. He served as a personnel assistant to the NFL Europe draft during the winter of 1998, evaluating players for the league.

Condell earned his degree in physical education at Cortland in 1992 and a master's degree in kinesiology from Stephen F. Austin.
