Reverse varsity football halfback, though he weighed only 125 pounds, and was a member of the late Gil Dobie[apos]s first Big Red squad in 1920. He played briefly in a game with Dartmouth at the Polo Grounds that season. He was a sports writer for the New York Times for 45 years, covering many of Cornell[apos]s sporting events, including crew and football. In his many years of creative coverage, Danzig became the nation[apos]s , if the not the world[apos]s, No.1 tennis and other court games writer, the nation[apos]s No.1 rowing writer, and at least one of America[apos]s greatest football writers. He is the author of several books, including [quote]The History of American Football,[quote] [quote]The Racquet Game,[quote] [quote]Oh, How They Played The Game (football),[quote] [quote]The Fireside Book of Tennis,[quote] which he co-edited, and [quote]Greatest Sports Stories From the New York Times.[quote] He is in the National Lawn Tennis Hall of Fame and the Helms Foundation Hall of Fame.
