Biography

A three-year letter winner, she rowed in the No.6 seat of the varsity crew that won the National Collegiate Rowing Championship in 1989, Cornell[apos]s first ever national title in women[apos]s crew. The [apos]89 varsity went 6-2 and placed third at the Eastern Sprints. She won a gold medal in the open quad sculls at the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival in 1989. Thies has rowed with the U.S. national team since 1991 and has competed in the Olympics and Pan American Games, where she won a silver medal in the double sculls in 1995. She finished eighth in the quadruple sculls at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, and she was a sculling spare at the 1992 Barcelona Games. She graduated from Irvington, N.Y., High School and has been an assistant women[apos]s crew coach at Princeton University.
