Biography

He was an All-America, All-Ivy and All-ECAC first-team hockey goaltender in 1982. He compiled a 3.82 career goals against average to rank 12th on Cornell[apos]s all-time list. He set the Cornell record for career saves (2,225) and tied the mark for saves in a game (61). Overall, he compiled a career won-lost record of 42-27-2. He was team MVP and tri-captain as a senior. Prior to coming to Cornell, Hayward played for the Guelph Holody Platers and attended Georgetown, Ont., District High School. Since his graduation from Cornell, he has played in the NHL with Winnipeg, Montreal and Minnesota.
