A versatile and talented sprinter, he was instrumental in the Cornell track team[apos]s three Heptagonal championships - indoors in 1977 and 1978 and outdoors in 1978. He set Cornell records in the indoor 440 and mile relay and the outdoor 100, 200, and the 400- and 800-meter relays. He was a four-time individual Heps champion, winning the 440 indoors in 1978 (running a 49.93, which set a Heps record), the outdoor 200-meter title in 1977 and 1979; and the outdoor 400 in 1978. He was a member of the record-setting 400-meter relay which won three outdoor Heps championships and earned All-America honors by placing fourth at the U.S. Track and Field Federation meet in 1977. The relay also won its event at the 1978 outdoor IC4As with a time of 39.91, which set a Cornell and IC4A record. Besides being a member of the winning 400 relay at the IC4As, Francis won the 200-meter dash (20.7, which broke his own Cornell record of 20.8) and finished fourth in the 100 meters. Francis made it to the semifinals of the 200 at the [apos]78 outdoor NCAA championships. He also ran a leg on the winning mile relay at the [apos]78 outdoor Heps. He is a former resident of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a graduate of St. Francis Prep School.
