A three-year letterman in soccer, he was an All-America first-team forward in 1948, after receiving honorable mention All-America honors in 1947. H e was the leading scorer and captain of the undefeated 1948 team, which won the Eastern Intercollegiate League championship and was ranked No.3 in the nation. He was a major contributor to a team that posted the longest string of undefeated games and one of two with the most consecutive shutout victories in the history of soccer at Cornell. He also excelled as a pitcher on the varsity baseball team, earning letters in 1946 and [apos]48. In 1960, on a trip to Jamaica, he and his wife, Marian, died in a plane crash. His teammates subsequently set up an award in his name, and those who knew and honored him recently came together once more to perpetuate his memory naming the soccer field at the University[apos]s new Robert J. Kane Sports Complex as the Charles Fl Berman Field.
