Biography

He was considered one of the nation[apos]s top shot putters for the men[apos]s track team from 1974-78. He qualified for the NCAA championships three times, placing sixth at the outdoor NCAAs in both 1974 and [apos]75 and was picked for All-America honors by the U.S. Track Coaches Association in [apos]75. He won the shot put at the outdoor IC4A championships in 1974 and [apos]75 and took second in 1978. He won the outdoor Heps shot title in 1974, 1975, and 1978, while capturing the indoor Heps crown in 1975. Doupe was second at the Penn Relays in 1975, and as a freshman in 1974 he also won at the South Carolina Relays and the Nittany Lion Relays, being named the outstanding performer in the latter meet. He holds the Cornell indoor (62-2 ½), outdoor (62-10-1/2) and Barton Hall (60-7) shot put records. He was the recipient of the team[apos]s outstanding weightman award in 1974 and again in 1978, when he helped the team capture the indoor and outdoor Hepatagonal championship and place fifth at the IC4A championships. He competed in the Meet of Champions at Berkeley, Calif., in the summer of 1975, and finished fifth overall, third among the college performers entered in the shot put. He graduated from Inglewood (Calif.) High School.
