Ellen Mayer Sabik

Biography

She was a four-year letter winner and a two-year captain of the women[apos]s gymnastics team. As a senior, she won the vaulting title at the New York state championships and was second on the balance beam at the Ivy League meet. She had a 33.6 average in the all-around, and was named co-recipient of the Jill Ryer Award for her outstanding leadership. As a freshman, she was second in vault, fourth on beam and seventh in the all-around at the Ivy championships. As a sophomore, she was second on vault at the Ivy championships as Cornell won the team title. Sabik was second in floor exercise and third in the all-around at the New York state championships, where Cornell won the team title. She was fourth on the floor and seventh in the all-around at the Eastern Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (EAIAW) championships. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA in biology and was a two-time Academic All-America first-team selection. She was inducted into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1997. Dr. Sabik graduated from Ransom Everglades High School in Miami, Fla.
