Emerson Carey

Biography

He was a three-year starter and letterman in football from 1924-26, alternating at center and guard as a sophomore and playing guard as a junior and senior. He was captain of the 1926 team which compiled a 6-1-1 record. H was also a place-kicker. His field goals with less than a minute to play in the 1926 game vs. Dartmouth climaxed a 17-point rally in the fourth quarter to give Cornell a 24-23 win, considered on e of the school[apos]s greatest come-from-behind victories. Cornell head coach Gil Dobie placed him on an All-Eastern team he was asked to pick for the Associated Press. He was also an excellent golfer, winning the Western Junior Amateur championship in the summer of 1925. Carey, who was a general agent for many years with the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, was a former resident of Denver, Colorado.
