He won the outdoor IC4A low hurdles event in both 1935 and 1937 and set the Intercollegiate record both times. In addition to winning the low hurdles in 1937 he came within a foot of capturing the 120-yard hurdles event at the IC4As. He became the first-Cornellian to break three records in one met, when he established marks in the high and low hurdles and the 400-yard run in a dual meet vs. Princeton in 1937. The three-year letterman captained the track team in 1937-38. He won the 440-yard hurdles championship and ran a leg on the winning mile relay unit at the Penn Relays in 1937.
