Biography

he participated in track as a hammer thrower and shot putter, earning letters in 1918 and 1919. He placed fifth in the hammer throw at the IC4As in 1918. Following graduation, he was an assistant track coach in charge in of the weight events under Cornell head coach Jack Moakley for 21 years. During his tenure at Cornell, he developed 10 IC4A champions and four Olympic competitors, including one champion and record holder. He was also founder and first chairman of the Administration Engineering Department at the University and the author of several books. Prof. Bangs left Cornell in1943 to become director of industrial relations for The Budd Company in Philadelphia. In 1957 he went to the University of Florida, where he was professor of business management and assistant track coach. He was elected a charter member of the Florida Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1978, along with Frank Shorter, Bob Hayes and other Olympians.
