Biography

The 6-7 center closed out a brilliant four-year basketball career in 1984-85, when he was the only unanimous selection on the All-Ivy first team and became the first Cornellian to receive the Ivy League Player of All-America. Averaging 20.0 points per game his senior year, Bantum set Cornell[apos]s all-time career scoring record of 1,411 points and established school records for best field goal percentage in both a season (163x262 for .622) and a career (522x963 for .542); most free throws attempted in a career (617); and most starts in a career (100). Bantum, a two-year captain and team MVP, was a second-team All-Ivy selection as a junior and received honorable mention All-League accolades as a sophomore. A native of Roosevelt, N.Y., he is a graduate of Holy Trinity High School, where he was a Nassau-Suffolk Catholic League All-Star and was named to the Daily News Catholic High School All-Star team.
